Recensione Darken the Stars di Amy A. Bartol

Buonasera, ho deciso di pubblicare una vecchia recensione perché ho riletto un po' di tempo fa questo libro e mi sono accorta che nel 2017 avevo preparato una recensione. Sicuramente ora la scriverei un po' diversamente, ma è pronta e tenerla come bozza non ha utilità. Continuo ad amare come allora questo libro e vi continuo a consigliare la lettura.

 Buongiorno, è passato tanto tempo dall'ultima volta che sono arrivata a pubblicare una recensione, sono piena di recensioni a metà ma questa non potevo lasciarla a mezzo. Questo libro è arrivato in un momento delicato, proprio quando non dovevo distrarmi ma è stata una bellissima distrazione dagli esami.

Buongiorno, mi scuso per la lunga attesa e spero apprezzerete il mio sforzo di farvi avere al più presto la recensione dell'ultimo libro della serie The Royals. Non ho davvero negli ultimi giorni il tempo materiale di gestire il blog e mi dispiace molto, ma sono troppo occupata per la scuola e il volontariato (grande novità: mi sta piacendo da impazzire salire in ambulanza di emergenza). Voi avete novità? Cosa avete letto ultimamente?

Ecco qui la recensione per questo nuovo libro di Richelle Mead di cui vi avevo già parlato qui l'altro giorno. Per scriverla ho avuto un po' di difficoltà, essendo senza il mio computer, forse avrei scritto di più normalmente, ma mettere tutti gli accenti giusti, con una tastiera straniera, é complesso, nonostante una parte l'abbia scritta con il tablet.

Prima di iniziare la recensione, vorrei chiarire che mi ero creata un'idea fuorviante delle tematiche del libro. Pensavo che essendo stato inserito nella categoria fantasy su Goodreads, fosse presente qualche tipo di magia. Se vi aspettate qualcosa di fuori dalla normalità, sappiate che il massimo

che troverete é l'ambientazione in un'altro mondo e quindi a questo punto questo per me non é assolutamente un fantasy. È stato anche da qualcuno classificato come distopico, anche qui però non mi trovo d'accordo, perché non riesco ad individuare cosa non funzionerebbe profondamente in questo mondo immaginario, non é una realtà immaginaria estremista. Ora, per chiarire, se dovessimo creare un paragone tra il nostro mondo e il loro, non ci troveremmo nel nostro periodo storico, ma molto indietro, poco dopo la scoperta dell'America.

Buongiorno, ecco finalmente la recensione del secondo libro della serie The Royals, trovate il primo libro recensito qui.

Non so cosa scrivere, ho appena finito questo libro e non so... anche se me lo aspettavo... odio i finali aperti! Mi spaventano perché se l'autore non pubblica il seguito... avrò sempre dei dubbi e sarò tentata di bruciare il libro in un bel falò. Non scherzo, mi sento scontenta perché questo libro come il precedente, si è fermato allo spannung... dio! E meno male che non mi ha preso come il primo! NO, non è il finale quello che mi ha sconvolto, anche se cambia tutto, NO è decisamente il sadismo della scrittrice. Posso tollerare una volta un finale simile, ma aspettarmi una cosa simile anche appena iniziato il libro? Ma cosa le ho fatto? O meglio... cosa ha contro noi lettori? Non mi piace la cosa, può scrivere bene e essere salita in classifica... ma farmi una cosa simile?!? Su cosa posso mettere le mani? Mi sento inviperita e non è un buon segno.

Vi dico una cosa, dopo che avrete letto l'inizio di questo libro... si insomma per un po' di tempo vorrete fare fuori Reed... superato questo però penserete, mi hai davvero fatto pensare

Recensione

Questa settimana posso affermare con convinzione di essere ossessionata da questa lista di libri che ho trovato su Goodreads e che ha come tema delle storie romantiche (è si, proprio romantiche!) tra fratellastri (qui il link). Ho infatti già letto cinque dei centoquattro libri all’interno, non che li leggerò tutti, ma quella lista è perfetta per la mia fissazione temporanea e… per il momento ho già trovato tre libri molto carini all’interno (Paper Princess, Stepbrother Dearest di cui devo scrivere la recensione e questo che ora recensirò). Nessuno di questi tre è stato tradotto in italiano, vale la pena comunque leggerli o segnarseli se prima o poi entrerete in una fase ossessiva come la mia. Sto anche pensando se inserirla come categoria per future ricerche, non si sa mai che qualcuno ne abbia bisogno.

Passiamo però al libro, che è la cosa più importante che mi porta qui a scrivere e lasciarvi quello che ne penso.

Vi è mai capitato di non sapere se siete felici di aver letto un libro o meno? Ecco, mi ronza questa domanda in testa e ancora non ho capito cosa rispondermi. Non è una cosa normale, perché questo libro mi è piaciuto, l’ho adorato e lo rileggerei mille volte. L’unica cosa che non torna in tutto questo è il finale, penso sia da quello che dipende questa semplice domanda e mi sento così toccata che è come se mi fossi fermata a quello che prova Ella. Ieri sera quando l’ho finito non riuscivo a credere a quello che stavo leggendo, ho provato a mettere in dubbio quell’ultimo capitolo dicendomi: “Non lo hai letto bene, devi avere frainteso qualche parola, sarà la lingua”. Per quante volte lo rileggo però non cambia, è in questi momenti che forse gli autori dovrebbero dare al lettore tre opzioni “salva sanità mentale”, tre finali diversi e evitarci qualche notte insonne. Quando l’ho finito non riuscivo a smettere di piangere, nemmeno ora mi torna semplice non esagerare e non so bene come muovermi. A ripensarci credo di essere in uno di quei momenti del tipo: “ho trovato il mio autore preferito” e non so in che punto della scaletta finiscono tutti gli altri. Erin Watt mi ha spezzato il cuore, sarà meglio che con il seguito me lo ricucia perfettamente perché nemmeno Sarah J. Maas mi ha sconvolta tanto.

La settimana scorsa, con molto impegno, mi sono dedicata alla lettura di questo secondo volume (la recensione del primo qui). Come il precedente è lungo e mi sono trovata ad affrontare un inglese difficoltoso. Non ho idea se questo dipenda dal genere leggermente diverso (dal mio abituale) o dalla prevalenza di sequenze descrittive/narrative, non mi è tornato semplice. Sono arrivata comunque alla fine, quindi, ora ve ne scriverò la recensione.

Nel primo libro avevamo lasciato: Adare con la scoperta che Ran il Tornja aveva ucciso il padre, Kaden invece era fuggito dall'attacco diretto verso gli Ishien e Valyn stava ancora affrontando lo stormo di Pulce. Ognuno di loro tre era in una situazione indefinita, il finale era aperto come una finestra e esistevano molte possibilità.

Adare, in questo libro, dopo essersi resa conto che il regno è in mano al suo nemico, decide di scappare dal palazzo. Riesce ad uscire dalla città e ad’unirsi a un pellegrinaggio religioso. Durante il suo viaggio, conosce la sua futura consigliera e protettrice; raggiunto il tempio, ormai scoperta la sua identità, viene colpita da un strano evento che le lascia sul corpo una strana cicatrice. Compie strane scelte che avranno grandi ripercussioni sulla trama, ma questo lo scoprirete da soli.

Nel frattempo Kaden raggiunge gli Ishien, uno strano gruppo ossessionato dai Csestriim e molto propenso alla tortura. Triste viene consegnata in mano loro, il suo passaggio tra i portali la rende un soggetto "strano" e così viene sottoposta alla tortura. Il nostro piccolo imperatore però è convinto che lei non è una Csestriim, come tutti suppongono e così si allea con il nemico degli umani per salvarla. Aiutato dal Csestriim, raggiunge il portale e arriva finalmente nella capitale. I suoi veri problemi iniziano qui, si è appena inimicato un gruppo fanatico e non può nemmeno raggiungere il palazzo. È circondato da nemici. 

Il terzo fratello, Valyn, è riuscito a scappare dagli artigli di Pulce insieme al suo stormo. Non sapendo se fa parte del complotto contro suo fratello Kaden, si mantiene a distanza dagli altri Kettral. Come concordato con Kaden, cerca di raggiungere la capitale per sostenere la sua ascesa.

Questi, in poche parole, sono una parte degli eventi (non vado oltre perché sarebbe una spoilerazione). Piano piano, con la calma tipica di Staveley, si inizia a srotolare l’intreccio e a farsi un’idea di chi ha in mano le marionette. In questo secondo volume, comunque resta difficile capire chi è nel torto e chi nel giusto. Con tutte le versioni che scoprono i fratelli, ancora non ho ben capito chi è il cattivo. Sarebbe troppo ovvio dire i Csestriim, mi viene quasi da pensare che ci dovrebbero essere dei ripensamenti su come ci vengono presentati, l’introduzione di un terzo soggetto nella fine mi ha incuriosito.

Come secondo libro non sono rimasta colpita, speravo che la trama si velocizzasse e gli eventi iniziassero a scorrere. Per i miei gusti, bisogna leggere troppe pagine per poco contenuto e questo appesantisce. Se si aggiunge l’inglese elaborato, direi che è un libro da leggere solo con esperienza.

No one wears white wedding dresses anymore. White cloth is too hard to come by, and the expense and trouble of securing enough to make several dozen dresses, or more, is too high. Not even on a day like today, when it is our leader’s son who will be one of the bridegrooms. Not even he is special enough to be allowed to marry a girl dressed in white.

Avete mai pensato di sposarvi in bianco? È una cosa così normale, strana da chiedere. Eppure in questo futuro immaginario, non esiste più la possibilità di sceglierlo. Ivy inizia così la narrazione, trascinando il lettore al suo matrimonio e mostrando questa società diversa.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we are here today to celebrate the marriages of the eligible young men from Eastglen and the lovely ladies from Westside. Their unions represent the best our small nation has to offer and symbolize the peace we have fought for and achieved together.”

 In questa società la popolazione è divisa su due fronti: gli Eastglen ed i Westside. Tutto gira intorno a queste due potenti famiglie rivali ed il suo matrimonio servirà a unirle.
I matrimoni ormai da due generazioni, avvengono tra i due quartieri (i ragazzi di Eastglen sposano le ragazze di Westside e viceversa). Non esiste la possibilità di scelta, è una legge che se infranta, porta il malcapitato fuori dalle mura della città.

Che problema c'è in questo? La città in cui vive, sembra essere l'unico superstite dalla guerra avvenuta nel 2025. Con la scusa del ripopolamento del pianeta, molte ragazze poco informate ed anche obbligate (il caso di Ivy), vengono fatte sposare presto.

Dopo cinquant'anni (dalla guerra) il mondo che noi conosciamo è cambiato radicalmente, quasi tutte le innovazioni che noi usiamo sono scomparse, la società è regredita e la democrazia scomparsa. In mezzo a questo futuro immaginario, Ivy si sposa con Bishop Lattimer, il nemico che suo padre e sua sorella la spingono costantemente ad odiare.

Ho trovato questo libro nella mia esplorazione della biblioteca vicino casa. Era li, solo soletto, sembrava chiamarmi e chiedermi Leggimi!. Come potevo rifiutare? Mi ha in un primo momento sconfortato la lunghezza, mi sono infatti chiesta se lo avrei finito (ultimamente ho poca pazienza nella lettura). Eppure, dopo qualche conto sulle dita mi sono detta Provaci!.

Così eccomi qui, in poche parole, dopo 9 giorni a recensirlo.

La fine di gennaio si avvicina, e come naturale, vedo già un calendario pieno di compiti ed interrogazioni per chiudere il quadrimestre. Oggi però, mettiamo da parte tutto questo, chiudiamo la porta e inoltriamoci in una buona lettura. Se come me riuscite a restare incantati dalla narrazione di un romanzo, oggi ve ne propongo uno in lingua inglese, chissà, forse è la porta adatta a voi...
